Another fun-filled week of learning has come to an end!

Math

Ask your mathematician about what it means to be a Factor Ninja. Be sure they tell you about prime and composite factors.  Have your mathematician solve some long division problems for you. They should be pretty comfortable with that target! Be sure they check their work.

Reading
More rewards for moving on up with reading! Way to go, Bo and Ben!

In reading we focused on author's purpose.  Ask your reader to tell you the 3 reasons we discussed. Together we read, "my brother Martin, a sister remembers," "It Took Courage," and "Barbara Jordan." Have your reader share what we learned. We also watched an excerpt from Dr. MLK Jr.'s  "I Have a Dream" speech.

We had  a special treat this week! Braxton read, The Pfeffernusse Goose , which his uncle wrote and illustrated, to us. Have your reader tell you about the story and the literary element he used to tell it.

From the music room!

Miss Martin's Music News
The month of January is rhythm and percussion month and students are having a blast!
This week completes our hand drum section where kids learned how to play the djembe, conga, bongo and tubano drums.
They learned music and rhythm notation in a 4 beat measure and participated in drum circle activities. Next week
we begin bucket drumming! This is unique to Prairie View and expands on what students have already been learning.
There will be a final written test at the end of the month! I hope your child has enjoyed drumming!

Best hats ever!

We will be finishing up our informative piece on snow next week.
