What a jam packed week! I'll bet you heard about how we created unique artwork using the painting technique of Jackson Pollock. Ask your artist about his work.

Mathematicians have been hard at work reading and writing numbers to the millions place in a variety of forms and comparing those numbers using symbols and words.

I hope you saw the homework folder come home on Thursday. The expectation is to read 20 pages per night and be ready to take a Reading Counts test when done with the book. Then we'll record the number of words and that's progress toward meeting the first goal of 40,000 words for their first cone and a tasty treat.

We've been reading Case of the Missing Bones together and learning about our skeleton.
Be sure to ask your fourth grader how many tickets they earned last week and if they chose to spend any Friday.

Check out our video! As we launch into writing, learning the "Sweet 16" words is a lot of fun. There will be a test in a couple of weeks.  It was so exhilarating working together to complete our paragraphs about apple taste testing. Your writers are amazing!

                                                         Our First Week!

Whew, the first week flew by! What a great group of fourth graders! I'm a lucky teacher! We got settled in and are now familiar with daily schedules and routines. "Mission Impossible" started us off and gave us the opportunity to get to know each other. There were some baseline assessments in math and writing.  We read stories from several different genres. Ask your fourth grader to share. They are so excited to get started on their reading logs. I love it! We will begin homework on Sept. 24 after we have a chance to chat at Open House Wed., Sept. 23rd from 6-7. Thank you for getting all the paperwork back!

Be sure to ask about The Fish Philosophy.

Here's what my fabulous fourth graders had to say about our week.

Cassidy: "I love fourth grade. It is fun!"
Kayli: "I liked the assembly."
Braxton: "I'm not really too happy about having two weeks off of homework."
Luke: "I liked recess."
Ashlyn: "I really like my teacher and my new music teacher. "
Malia: "I love the jobs, tickets, and points."
Talan: "I solved a really hard math problem on Friday."
Parker: "I have a great teacher and we have had some great projects in this first week. This first week was probably the best week."
Megan: "I enjoyed the assembly when the teachers did little shows. I also enjoyed getting to know my new teacher Mrs. Jordan."
Tristan: "It has been really fun and I liked when we do math."
Mason: "Fourth grade is awesome!"

 Welcome back PV Hawks!

I'm so excited to be your teacher! I have been busily preparing our classroom and planning for the first month! I have been meeting with the other 4th grade teachers Mrs. Wiser, Mrs. Krause, Miss Pecka and Ms. Cozza preparing a special welcome that you will see on the 2nd day of school at the Welcome Back Assembly.  :)

Parents:  Be sure to check the blog often!  Its purpose is to keep you informed on the happenings in our classroom and to help initiate conversations with your child.  Each week, you are able to get a first hand look at the learning that took place, classroom celebrations, learning targets and much more.  Along the right side of the blog there will also be a list of Important Upcoming Events.  For starters, 4th grade Open House will be from 6:00 - 7:00 on September 23rd in the library.

Be sure to get some sleep so your bright eyed and bushy tailed for the first week!  Don't forget to pack a water bottle and a snack to keep your energy up.  Keep in mind that all snacks need to be nut free!

It's going to be a great year!
Mrs. Jordan
