Here's the fourth grade update!

Look at these precious pics! Love those special days!

Math: Our work with fractions is coming to an end this week. Your mathematician can compare fractions, add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators, and multiply fractions. Add mixed numbers to all of the above as well. They are able to draw models to represent their work, also. Now it's assessment time and then on to decimals.

Reading: We have read about the Gold Rush and practiced using cause and effect relationships to identify the main ideas to create a summary. Our most recent reading we targeted drawing conclusions as a way to gain insight into the characters and the plot, while reading "Dear Mrs. LaRue" and other related titles.

Way to go Jocelyn, Emilee, Caden, and Griffin!

Writing: The writing assessment is done for the opinion piece. Fourth graders wrote about what they felt were the most difficult hardships pioneers faced as they traveled west on the Oregon Trail. This week's one to answer is: Name the 5 components you earn points for on your writing rubric. Next, it's an informational.

Science: Soils, rocks, and landforms is our final unit of study. Ask your scientist about physical weathering. This week we're investigating chemical weathering.
Sciencefest is June 1st from 6:00-8:00.

Art: Mrs. Peffer led us in art Eric Carle style. So cute and colorful!

Working hard in fourth grade!

Writing: After reading "Wild Horses" writing several RACE response answers was the target. Looking at 3 different sources writers have been asked to write an opinion piece about zoos. Ask your author to share their opinion with you and the reasons why they're supporting that idea.

Math: Comparing fractions has been our work in math. We practiced many strategies such as using benchmark fractions, and finding equivalent fractions for common numerators and denominators. Drawing tape diagrams and plotting fractions on number lines also helped us determine the symbols used to express our comparisons. Now we're moving on to adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators.

Reading: Our reading target was cause and effect. We read "Wild Horses" and filled out a cause and effect chart. We also read "The Wild Ponies of Chincoteague" from our Treasures book and
Cattle-Driving Horses of the Old West.  Readers created cause and effect charts for all the stories.

Wahoo, Tyler! Nice job!

P.E.: Only having 30 minutes of P.E. two days this week we have learned so much about health and healthy eating. Think about what you learned when you pack your lunch next time.

Science: Ask your scientist to fill in the blanks. This week's one to answer:
Energy is the ability to do ______________ and cause _____________ and _________________.
The quantity of energy cannot be ______________ or ____________________.
Energy can be ________________ from one ___________________ to another.
Then have them name 6 forms of energy.

Game time! Another earned celebration!

Filled the Hawk's Nest again! BINGO!

Another amazing art lesson with Mrs. Peffer!
Sketching like cartoonists!
Thank you Mrs. Nguyen and Mrs. Brown for your help!
