Happy Veteran's Day!

Thanks to all who have served to protect America and its many freedoms!
We are so very grateful. Fourth graders participated in the "Millions of Thanks Campaign" to honor veterans. We wrote letters of thanks to be sent to those who have served or are serving in the United States armed forces. Ask your letter writer to share.

Thanks to all who donated money to support the Ellefsen family! The pizza was yummy and the family felt the love!

Math: We went back and took a look at the metric system assessment to see if we could figure out why answers were incorrect. Moving onto the multiplication and division module now so we took the pretest to see what standards, if any, we may be familiar with as we are beginning.

Reading/Science: Saying goodbye to our living organisms was difficult. Our investigations have concluded. Ask your scientist about the nonliving factor of salinity and how it affects the hatching of brine shrimp eggs. Inquire about the Mono Lake ecosystem. Science selections provided us with lots of information for the opinion piece we're working on. We read and took notes to gather evidence to support our opinion.

Writing: The introduction is done and work on the body paragraph is under way. Ask your writer how it's going.
This week's one to answer: Write the checklist symbols we use and what they represent.

November is here!

We joined McClain's Pizzeria to support the dear Ellefsen family! A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Durgan for picking up the pizza and delivering it to the fourth graders. If you would like to join us by sending in a small donation for the pizza, it would be greatly appreciated. We are so lucky to be part of such a loving and caring community!
Hope you can join us for the Veteran's Day Assembly!
It begins at 2 on Wed., November 10th.
We are need of baby food jars for an upcoming art project. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. We'll need the jars by November 23rd. Thanks so much!

Here's what we've been up to.

Math: Ask your mathematician about the metric system units of measure for length, mass/weight, and capacity. We have been solving lots of multi-step word problems and simplifying or converting the units to solve them. See how the assessment went.

Reading/Science: We've learned a lot about ecosystems, food chains, and food webs. This week's one to answer is: Explain the Sun's role in how matter and energy are transferred to producers and consumers. Ask your scientist about our brine shrimp hatcheries and the investigation we're conducting. All our living organisms are thriving as we manipulate the environmental factors and observe the effects.

Writing: Mrs. Brown has been helping us edit and check our work for 3 complete paragraphs. Now, we're printing our final copies. On to the next opinion piece this week. Be sure to ask what the writing task/prompt is this time.

Art: Mrs. Peffer taught us about negative and positive space while sharing Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree" with us. Then we created our own trees and thought about how perspective plays a role in placing the tree in our artwork.

Spelling: Checking out how well we know those 100 fourth grade words.
